Chapter 51 Part 3: The Red String of Fate

wedding procession

“I can save her. Now what we should do can only be summed in a word, wait.” Yun Rong replied. The time when Lu Yun Qing would depart was not much longer. That ghost would soon appear.

Now what Yun Rong said was considered facts. Hearing Yun Rong saying that she could save her, everyone let out their breaths. Only Xu Bi remained unconvinced and said: “Intentionally creating mystery, saving people is like putting out a fire, why have to wait? I think you actually don’t have the ability, right?!”

Xu Bi had repeatedly questioned the young lady. Even if Yun Rong could tolerate her, Lu He Nian was no longer able to. He took his cell phone out and called a number. Within a short time, two security guards came up, grabbed Xu Bi’s hands and dragged her out.

“Lu Song Nian, are you still a man?! I’m your wife but you let your younger brother treat me like this!” The security was employed by the Lu family, so naturally they knew Xu Bi was the Lu family’s madam and didn’t dare to move their hands too roughly. Xu Bi struggled with all her might and the room was momentarily in chaos.

In the middle of Xu Bi’s screams, Yun Rong’s attention suddenly shifted. Her sight turned solemn all at once.

Coming!

“Since you don’t believe me, just stay here and look carefully.” Yun Rong saw Xu Bi struggling as if her life depended on it and spoke to her indifferently. She then turned her head towards Lu He Nian and said: “Second brother, just let her go, okay?”

The young lady said so and Lu He Nian immediately realized her intention. Without any objection he waved his hand to let the security guards go down. He then said to Jiang Shu Hua: “Ma, why don’t you go to the study room and rest first for a while.”

“Yes, Aunt Jiang. Just go to the study room and rest okay? I’ll call you when it’s done.” Yun Rong also persuaded her. After all, soon the ghost would come and the inauspicious aura would get heavier. Jiang Shu Hua was older, although she held the peace amulet, it was still easy for her to fall ill.

Jiang Shu Hua was also not a person who pretended. Upon listening, she understood that the major event would probably occur soon. She had old arms and legs and couldn’t help. If she insisted, she was afraid she would probably be in the way. She nodded and said: “Then I’ll go out first.”

After Jiang Shu Hua left, no one in the room spoke and it was somewhat momentarily quiet. Even Jiang Shu Hua was asked to step out, Xu Bi couldn’t help shrinking her neck, wondering if it was right or wrong for her to stay.

Yun Rong looked at Xu Bi and indifferently said: “Your fate with children is very thin. Throughout your life you’ll only have one daughter. But you are not wholehearted towards this daughter, thinking that in the end a daughter will get married anyway and not a person of your own house. Precisely because of this you have never gotten close to your daughter. In the end, it would result in a miserable end in your later years.”

“Are you cursing me?” When Xu Bi heard her, agitation flashed on her face. What Yun Rong said was precisely the deepest secret at the bottom of her heart. Even though the Lu family didn’t have the ideology of valuing males and attaching less importance to females, Xu Bi still didn’t like Lu Yun Qing. Every day she kept thinking, if Lu Yun Qing was a son, would Lu Song Nian treat her slightly better? Would Lu family’s assets become hers?

But Lu Yun Qing is a daughter!

“I’m not cursing you, I’m talking about your life fate.” A faint compassion passed through Yun Rong’s eyes, seemed like she pitied her but also seemed to ridicule her.

Xu Bi was about to retort when everyone’s ears simultaneously picked up a faint noise of gongs and drums beating. At first it sounded festive, but after careful listening, it sounded mournful, making one’s hair stand on end. Along with the sound getting cleared and clearer, the surrounding inauspicious aura slowly stirred into motion, just like the waves in the sea.

“It’s coming!” Yun Rong turned her head to look at the door. She said to Lu He Nian: “Second brother, hold the door open.”

Lu He Nian quickly opened the door. It was obviously the second floor, but a bridal procession vaguely appeared on top of the staircase. A 20-year-old man was preceding at the front, sitting astride a white horse made from paper. Behind him, more than a dozen paper servants lifted the sedan chair, blowing and hitting while floating over. Each paper doll’s face was smeared with festive blushes, looking especially weird under the light.

The man sitting on the white horse got closer and closer. His movement paused when he finally saw the four people standing in the room

    “……”

“We’ve been waiting for you for a long time already.” Yun Rong spoke while smiling. Before the bridal procession could react, her hand was raised and a long, thin, light green spiritual influence came out and turned into a rope. In a flash, it headed towards the ghost riding the white horse and tried to wrap itself around its waist.

The ghost had a bit of cultivation and hurriedly avoided but it still whipped its hand. In an instant, a black scar appeared on his hand and an evil air leaked out immediately.

“This yellow-haired1 girl still wants to obstruct me!” The ghost was instantly angered and bellowed at Yun Rong.

“I don’t know for how many years this old ghost has already been dead, but still thinking of marrying a young woman. Not looking at your own age, no matter how much powder you use to cover up, it cannot cover the death air from your face!” Yun Rong looked disdainfully at the ghost in front of her. His agewas advanced, yet didn’t want to go for reincarnation, instead thinking of marrying a 16-year-old as his wife. Did he have any shame?

The ghost died when he was already 46 years old and was still a bachelor. In his whole life, because he was lazy and poor, he couldn’t marry a wife. The anger after his death was due to this sore point which overflew with complaints. Finally he actually went as far as to practice sorcery, confusing a pair of wealthy husband and wife who thought that they had met a real deity. They both took out money and effort so they could give him a wife.

Today, to get married he transformed his appearance to look like a young man. Now that his age was being exposed by Yun Rong, he was immediately angered and his evil aura rose dramatically. He snarled: “Lu Yun Qing has received my betrothal gift, her marriage fate is already linked to me. Even if it’s Yue Lao2 coming, he couldn’t break it off. Today I’m going to marry Lu Yun Qing.”

On the contrary, the ghost’s warning made Yun Rong recall that she left the red string of fate exactly to draw him over. Now that he was already here, keeping the string had no purpose. She laughed and said: “No need for Yue Lao to come, I’ll immediately break off the two of you.”

With that said, Yun Rong reached out her hand and right away grasped the red string connected to Lu Yun Qing’s finger and broke it off. Her action was no different from breaking off a piece of hair.

Seeing how the red string was broken, the ghost was so angry he could no longer maintain his disguise. His entire figure was all of a sudden enlarged a few times and turned into a middle-aged man whose seven apertures were shedding blood. He held his hand, with fingernails just like swords, out to grab Yun Rong.

Without changing her expression, the spiritual influence on Yun Rong’s hand became a rope and all of a sudden coiled around the ghost’s hand. With a strong throw, the ghost was just like a punching bag being flung out.

Ah…….” This scene happened so fast, in a split second the ghost had fallen next to Xu Bi. Xu Bi had been shivering from the moment she saw the bridal procession and now a ghost bleeding from his seven apertures was thrown directly onto her and she could no longer stop herself from screaming.

Her scream had instead attracted the ghost’s attention. The ghost’s evil eyes glanced at Xu Bi, and with a quick dodge, he got into Xu Bi’s body.

Xu Bi merely felt as if her body had fallen into an icy hole, even her bones were penetrated by the cold. She screeched: “I’m Lu Yun Qing’s mother, your mother-in-law. I consent to my daughter marrying you, let me go…….”

Facing death, the life and death of her daughter wasn’t important.

  1. Every time I read an update of this arc, I keep having hope for Xu Bi. Hoping she will change. I have given up on her now. Lu Song Nian has been a bad parent also but at least there seems to be some remorse and hopefully plan to be better in the future.

  2. I keep thinking she’s probably not really Song Nian’s daughter. What are the odds that her mom got pregnant after drugging the dad for one night? More likely she played another shady trick to ensure he had to marry her.
