Marriage of the Di Daughter
Chapter 151 Part 3: Something Happened
“He once stayed with my master for a period of time.” Wen Ren Yao saw Jiang Li’s confusion and explained to Jiang Li enthusiastically, “My master is very fond of listening to operas. Ah Heng was still young at that time and the master taught him to sing opera. However, we have never heard Ah Heng sing opera on weekdays. “There was only one time,” Wen Ren Yao said, as if he was still recalling it, “One time Ah Heng was young and got drunk, then he started singing at the banquet. Miss Jiang second, Ah Heng has this appearance and this voice, if he sings in an opera, think about it, is there anyone in the world who wouldn’t fall for him?”
Jiang Li asked, “Did all of you listen till the end?”
“Of course.” Wen Ren Yao answered very naturally.
These people are surprisingly still alive, Jiang Li thought, which showed that in Ji Heng’s heart, he really regarded these people as his own. Otherwise, if it had been anyone else, Jiang Li could almost imagine Ji Heng would have killed and silenced them without hesitation.
Because the current expression in his eyes was like wanting to kill someone.

Ji Heng noticed Jiang Li’s gaze and turned his head. Jiang Li felt a little numb by his sight, and saw the young man suddenly raise his lips and smile. When he smiled, it was like flowers blooming all over the mountains in spring, which made people feel confused. In the confusion, his voice carried a coldness and indifference as he said slowly, “Do you want to hear it too?”
Jiang Li trembled, “I don’t want to.”
What a joke, she is not Wen Ren Yao, she doesn’t want to die, she wants to live.
Wen Ren Yao heard this, but seemed to think that the matter was not big enough, and said, “Miss Jiang second, you are missing out a big thing. You should listen to Ah Heng’s voice carefully. Listening to it isl absolutely worth it. But it has been almost twenty years since I last heard him sing.” After he said that, he sighed deeply, “It’s really nostalgic.”
Twenty years ago? Then Ji Heng was just a little boy of four or five years old. In Jiang Li’s mind, a young master with an exquisite appearance carved like jade immediately emerged. Presumably, the Ji Heng at that time should also be wearing red clothes. But it would be much smaller than the one before her now. Not only that, when he sang, both tender and touching, it was indeed beautiful when thinking about it.
Beauties always make people feel delighted.
Ji Heng smiled faintly, unfolded his fan, and shook it neither quickly nor slowly, “Have you said enough?”
On the fan, the numerous gorgeous peonies bloomed in an instant, but at this moment, they looked eerie and murderous. Not sure if it was because of using the fan in winter, it felt particularly cold. Even the smile on Wen Ren Yao’s face froze.
Wen Ren Yao shuddered, as if he had suddenly woken up from his drunken state and said, “Ah? What did I just say? I don’t remember. I’m probably drunk, I feel dizzy…..”
Jiang Li, “…..”
Wen Ren Yao pretended to be drunk and no longer courted disaster by following up on this question. And no one dared to take the initiative to touch his eyebrows. Only old General Ji dared, but old General Ji was not really interested in singing and listening to operas, so he soon talked to Lu Ji about other things.
There was a smile on Jiang Li’s lips, and her smile at this time was somewhat sincere. A moody and scheming violent killer had such a gentle childhood, her heart felt that Ji Heng was not so scary, and even a little cute.
Of course, when tonight was over and the day came, Ji Heng, who was Duke Su, would still be as ruthless as before. There was no doubt about this.
“You seem to be very happy?” Ji Heng’s voice came from the side. Jiang Li looked back at him. As long as there was no mention of singing, Ji Heng would be smiling like that again. She smiled and said, “I think it’s very lively, but there’s nothing unhappy about it.”
Ji Heng smiled faintly, did not comment, and just played with the folding fan in his hand. Jiang Li thought for a while and asked, “The Duke seems to like this fan very much?”
“Things that ensure one’s survival are of course very precious.” Ji Heng replied.
Jiang Li deeply agreed. She had personally seen the power of this fan. However, leaving aside that it was a murderous weapon, the beauty of this fan made it very valuable. If an ordinary family got this fan, they might pass it on to future generations as a family heirloom.
Ji Heng asked, “What about you? Don’t you have anything precious?”
He said “things” rather than “people”. Jiang Li was stunned and said, “No. There is no shortage of ordinary things at home. As for weapons, they are none as special as the Duke’s.” After a pause, she added, “That’s not right. I still have a precious thing.”
She took out the jade pendant hanging around her neck from her collar.
A chubby raccoon was carved on the jade pendant, which Xue Huaiyuan had personally carved for her. After marrying into the Shen family, she pawned it off in order to provide Shen Yurong in his officialdom. Later, when she became Jiang Li and returned to Yanjing, she asked Tong’er to think of a way and find a reason to redeem the jade pendant from the pawn shop.
“This is something precious to me,” she said.
Ji Heng swept a glance at the jade pendant and suddenly said, “I have seen it before.”
“Yes.” Ji Heng had picked it up before.
“It looks very ordinary.” Ji Heng said.
“It’s very common, but I always feel it’s special. Sometimes the most precious thing does not lay in its value, right?” Jiang Li replied with a smile, while carefully stuffing the jade pendant back into her collar. For her, the reason why this jade pendant was precious was not only because it represented Xue Huaiyuan’s love for his daughter, but also because this jade pendant constantly reminded her of her name.
She was Ah Li, and also Ah Li. She was Jiang Li, and also Xue Fang Fei.
Must not forget who she was.

That line was so powerful and moving. I can’t even imagine the kind of inner conflict the FL must be dealing with.

I think this is one of my favorite episodes because we get to see so many different sides of the ML and FL. Ji Heng feels more approachable and human thanks to the stories shared by his people. And it’s so interesting that Jiang Li had no idea how others felt about his ex-mother-in-law. I’m really loving the dynamic that’s starting to build between JH and JL.
Her internal monologue had me cracking up!🤣
