First of all, I want to say that I am currently part of the translator team of this novel, so the fact that I am helping translate it already speaks of how much I like it.

Bai Wei Wei is the young heiress of a rich family, with a seemingly perfect but indiferent fiancée and a doting father. She has grown into an intelligent and gentle young woman capable of managing the family business. However. She has a heart illness which causes her to often have heart attacks. One day, her white lotus half sister reveals her true colors and tries to kill her by throwing away BWW’s medication while she is having a heart attack.

This triggers the activation of a system, which has the ability to stabilize her heart situation and reward her with days of life provided she completes a task: get the unconditional love (=100 affection points) of the ‘male lead’ in a different world. Thus begins the journey of BWW through multiple worlds, each with a different setting, trying to get the affection of the male lead with all kinds of strategies, while planning to take revenge on that bitch of a sister.

Meanwhile, unbeknownst to her, her actions have an effect on Ye Yu Xuan, her fiancée. Since he was a child, YYX was unable to feel any kind of feelings. However, after experiencing different lives (and loves) through the male lead of these worlds in his dreams, he starts to awaken different feelings, and the character of the male lead and his life experience in each world will leave a trace on YYX’s behaviour. Bit by bit, a strange connection between BWW and YYX is revealed, but only time will tell how it will affect them.

The charm of QT novels is that you get to experience many stories in many different settings, and since each arc has it’s own conclusion it doesn’t get too long or boring, there’s always something new awaiting. Many people complain that after you read a few QT novels the arcs get repetitive as they always use the same settings, but as I see it that’s not true, to me it is actually refreshing to see how each author will develop the story  in a completely different way using the same setting (i.e. vampire, cultivation world, zombie, etc.).

A thing I like in this novel is that MC doesn’t stay her whole life in each world, usually leaving strictly right after completing her mission. To me, staying the whole life in every world would put too many information in the brain, even if there is a system to deal with that. Idk, the idea doesn’t convince me. This goes hand in hand with anoher important element for me, the light tragedy. Why do I call it light tragedy? Most arcs are completed in a tragic way, and I must confess I’ve cried in all of them except one (well it’s not difficult to make me cry). However, although it is tragic, it is not too tragic. And in a few chapters you will find yourself laughing again with their antics, so to me it is the perfect balance, just the right amount of tragedy and then back to comedy, not letting yourself heartache too much. The only one who is left feeling heartache will be the ML, poor him gets to eat all the tragedy all by himself.

Another point I love is the love-hate relationship between BWW and the system, as well as the narcissistic and shameless side of BWW. I totally love translating that, I love BWW shouting abuse to the system or cannon-fodders, it’s very funny for me. That also shows that the image initially showed of BWW was just on the surface, a gentle temperament with those she cares for, but underneath she has a strong personality that won’t let herself be bullied by anyone, and will return the slap 100 times stronger. The system, btw, is a totally unreliable one. The author is also quite tricky, good at making lowkey jokes and wordplay that, unfortunately, sometimes might get lost in translation.

Most times, the male lead of each world will have a negative impression or even deep hatred for the MC (BWW of that world), but this only makes more interesting to see how she will turn the tables and make him submit to her. Sometimes ML acts despicably, but usually there’s a reason behind, be it because of MC’s past actions or for some other reason in his dark past. ML shouldn’t be judged too much. Well, sometimes he really is a scumbag. In any case, BWW is protected by the system, which shields her emotions so the experience in each world don’t actually affect her real self, it’s just like a dream to her (unlike what happens to YYX, it has a much deeper effect on him).

The only thing that bothers me a bit is that the mission arcs keep getting longer while the reality arcs are kept short, so the real plot progresses quite slowly (you probably won’t have supporting feelings for reality ML until ch+200…). This is sometimes due to the side quests BWW receives, which in the beginning are okay but later on seem to be issued specifically to make BWW’s life difficult, pointing at the idea that someone within the main system might be targeting her. Still, I enjoy both reading and translating this novel a lot.

About the translation, MGCH has been in hands of 3 different translators. In all cases, these translators were actually MTLrs. This means, none of them (including me) actually knows chinese (at least to a level of being able to properly translate). Translations are done based on a machine translation (usually by google) and then edited to make it readable into english, consulting chinese kanji dictionaries to verify that the MTL matches the raws. It is actually a much harder work than it seems. Although it can’t compare to proper translations by people who know chinese, I reckon our current team’s translations are quite good, we put a lot of effort in it and usually the results are not bad at all.
